Postform Formica High Pressure Laminate (HPL) is manufactured by setting a layer of overlay paper on top of a melamine resin impregnated pattern paper and over layers of phenolic resin impregnated kraft paper. The whole setting combination is then pressed at very high pressure and temperature to form a sheet of high pressure laminate. The HPL will then be sent for sizing to ensure uniform sizes and sandling on the back to maintain uniform thickness and to facilitate bonding. Most laminates are resistant to scratches, scuffing and abrasions. This material is very much affordable compared to other types of kitchen top. However, it is prone to peeling after a few years especially at the areas around the sink. Once damaged, laminates may be quite impossible to repair without changing the entire sheet.

A good alternative to laminates for kitchen top. It has a higher heat resistance and more durable compared to laminates and is usually scratch proof. However, the major concern is the grouting lines. Once dirt sets in the grout lines, it can be quite difficult to get rid of them. Therefore, the maintenance would have to be very continuous. |
